Birthday Scrapbook Page

I really wanted to get something creative accomplished today, so I sorted through some photos until I found a group that called to me. They were pictures of my opening a present from some good friends of ours for my birthday this year. I used a tag title that I got from Kathy M at Scrapbook Addict for winning a prize at her cyber crop that she held in April. I mounted the tag on some ribbon. I then stamped some candles on a piece of paper (that matched the journaling block). The candle stamps are from the Studio G $1 stamp sets at Micheal's. I also stamped and colored a cupcake stamp. This stamp was originally mounted on wood, but I've unmounted most of my wood mount stamps since I find unmounted stamps easier to store and position. I think I got this cupcake stamp from a dollar store near us. I used the stripe paper because the horizontal stripes mimic what I'm wearing. I included the note that our friend wrote me and the card that they gave me. The big "Danielle" is from the envelope that the card came in. I loved how our friend wrote my name, so I wanted to include it on the layout.

My birthday party invites

A few years ago I started the tradition of throwing myself a scrapbook party for my birthday. I figure this way I'm ensured one birthday party that I enjoy : ). All three of the invites feature embossed flowers made with a cuttlebug embossing folder, a border stamp that alternates a flower and the word party (this stamp is an acrylic stamp by Fiskars) and sparkly flower paper that I picked up at Micheal's a few months ago. I tore the flower paper and matted it on the cardstock back. I then punched holes and set eyelets (using my new crop-a-dile punch, still need to use it more to get the hang of setting eyelets with it) and threaded ribbon through the eyelets. I mounted the embossed flowers on the ribbon using foam squares. Inside it lists the date, time, etc. I also stamped "forget the gift, just bring the you" from the same set as the party stamp by Fiskars.

The cards for the organizer

I have a bunch of cards left over from the craft fair I did at the end of June, so I'm using those for my husband's uncle's card organizer. The only theme I didn't have enough of was birthday cards. I needed 8 more, so I sat down and made them on Wednesday. I went through my patterned paper and found two that I liked. Since I only needed male birthday cards, I chose blue and green card stock for the background. I cut the patterned paper 3/4 inches smaller than the card body. I also chose ribbon and fibers to adhere the tags with stamped images on the card. I used shaped paper clips on most of the cards to attach the fiber or ribbon.

These first three are pretty much the same, except the background paper. I stamped the "Make a Wish" stamp from a $1 studio g acrylic stamp set from Micheals, and then stamped a 3 candle stamp set I got in a birthday stamp pack from Micheals. I separated each graphic and put eyelets on them and then threaded the graphics on ribbon. I attached them to the cards with shaped paper clips.

Same as last one, just different ribbon and background paper.

This one has a different card body color, but the same background paper as the first card. It also has a different color of ribbon.

These next two are kind of hard to see the graphics. It has a party hat, then the words "Happy birthday" over a noise maker, and then another party hat. All of the images come from Studio G $1 acrylic stamp sets.

Same as the last, but with a different background paper.

This one is the only one I made that didn't have at least fiber. The birthday present came from the birthday stamp set from Micheals, and the text stamp is from a hostess gift I got the last time I hosted a Stampin' Up workshop.

The balloons I got in a birthday stamp pack from Micheals. The "happy birthday" is from $1 Studio G stamp sets. I like the look of the balloons pop doted over the ribbon.

This one is the same as the last one, just a different placement for the images, and I didn't use shaped clips to attach the ribbon.

I really hope that my husband's uncle likes this gift. I hope you've enjoyed looking at them : ).

Embossed Happy Birthday Card

I had purchased the Happy birthday Cuttlebug folder a few weeks ago so decided to play with it today. I embossed it and then sanded it with an Emery board (I couldn't find any sand paper) I then embossed some little brass stencils I had in light blue and then a gold and sanded those also. There are 2 party hats and two presents (one in each color) and then a tag that says "for you". I put micro eyelets on them and then strung them from blue twine from Stampin' Up. I adhered some dark blue spiral clips on opposite corners and tied the twine to them. I spread the embossed items out and then adhered them since they tended to bunch together if I didn't adhere them. All in all I think this card turned out well. I used blue since I have tons of girlish cards but not many boyish ones.

Girl's Birthday Card

It's been a busy week that hasn't left much time for paper crafting, unfortunately. We had a party last night for some friends, so the week has been spent tidying the house. Not that it was bad to begin with, but I always want it to be perfect before people come over. Though, the boys' rooms were BAD to begin with : ). I think it comes from them being in the basement where I very rarely go.

I made this girl "Happy Birthday" card the other day. It utilizes the "bloom dots" cuttlebug template I bought last week. The square clips my wonderful husband found at Staples when he was there picking up some transparency markers for himself and thought I'd enjoy them. He also got me a package of red and blue spiral clips that he saw that day. The flower is from the Autumn Leaves "build a flower" set I bought a while ago. I had stamped the leaves and stem, but the green pad was just a little too bright to look good on the rest of the card so I adhered the ribbon over the stamped lines. I think it took a mistake and made the card actually better for it. If you don't like what you've done, just experiment, especially if you're just going to throw the card away or start over if it doesn't look good : ). The "Happy Birthday" is a Basic Gray rub-on I picked up on clearance last week at Roberts. I had tried some other smaller rub-ons there too, but that didn't work out, so I took it off and started over with the strip. This one worked much better! Glad I only paid less than a dollar for those rub-ons or else I might feel guilty : ). After my husband bought me the clips, I was looking through the Splitcoast Stampers gallery for ideas to use them and several people had put ribbon through them and just attached them to random places on the cards. That's where I got the idea for the clips from. The ink on the flower is chalk ink that I bought at Robert's last week. I love the different look the chalk ink gives than normal ink.

Cards I've made at Workshops

These cards are ones I've made at workshops when my friends have hosted parties.

This first one I made at a Close to My Heart workshop. CTMH sells acrylic, unmounted stamps. It's a winter one. Oops, just noticed that I took a picture of the card upside down.

This Halloween one was made at a Stampin' Up workshop. We used the "word window" punch (I think that's what it's called) to make the fence and cut out the window that the slider goes along. We stamped 2 of the jack-o-lanterns, mounted them on a penny in the slider window with 3d foam tape. As you move the card the jack-o-lantern slides along the window. We then punched a circle for the moon and stamped the bats and spider after assembling it. We distressed the fence by inking it with a black inkpad. This was a fun card to make.

This is the card we made at the Stampin' Up workshop I hosted. We colored the birthday cake with chalk picked up on a blender pen. It allows you to use your chalk colors but gives you more of a marker type finish instead of the usual chalk finish. The purple cardstock strip was stamped with the "Petals" jumbo wheel from the Spring 2007 catalog.

This last one my friend had made before the workshop and handed out to everyone. It was a Stampin' Up workshop.

Other Paper Art besides cards

I do other paper art, not just cards. My main love is scrapbooking, though I usually have a very simple style. Here's a gift scrapbook I made for a friend's birthday party we went to. I took pictures at the party and assembled the book for her. The size of the book is 8 inches by 8 inches.

Title Page

I put mats on the page so that all that needed to be done was to stick the pictures on the mats.

Signature Page

The left page is a pocket for cards, the right page a signature page for people to write their well wishes for her birthday on.

Birthday Cards

This card says "To Err is Human but to really mess up requires a computer."

On the green card I embossed the cake on vellum and then colored the underside with chalk to get a more muted color. I also stamped candles on the card with a versamark pad, making just a light watermark design.

This one I decided to experiment with tearing the paper and inking it. Definitely not my normal thing, but it was fun to make.

I made this one a few years ago. I thought it'd work well for a child's birthday. The inside says something along the lines of "happy birthday wishes." I can definitely tell how far I've come in making my cards by looking at this one and other ones made around the same time.

I've decided to separate the cards into themes. Birthday seemed a logical place to start, so that's what I did. Hope you enjoyed seeing some of my cards.
