Mix Kits Pocket Your Year 2016 challenge

I was playing with the pictures we took yesterday on our 25th wedding anniversary and the create layout option in the Project Life app. I used 3 different kits for the three cards. The one on the left side is from the Confetti Edition cards, the one in the middle was from the Desktop Edition, and the journaling card on the right is from the Lovely Mini Kit cards.

I woke up with a sore throat, so we celebrated at home. I forgot to take pictures of the Thai food we got take out for dinner.

Winter cards

I've been very, very lax in doing anything paper craft related, let alone posting about it. Yesterday I made a bunch of cards, using embellishments I got from the Die Cuts With a View Christmas and Winter Rhinestock Stack (a picture) and the Die Cuts with a View box of Embossed cards that I got a few years ago. I also added some ribbon, since most of the embellishments are tags. I also broke out my shaped paper clips. The paper stack came with tags and embellishments, two pages of the same ones. I think the cards turned out alright. Not perfect, but pretty good.

This one has hearts embossed on the background, since the text says "Some bunny loves you." I used my watercolor pencils to color the background and then used water to make it watercolor like. There were two of each embellishment but I used the other one of this one on a pocket page with the 2012 Christmas cards we received.

This one has a tag that says "Stay Cool" on it, since you can't really read it with the glare. The embossed card has a lot of friendship sayings on it. I used my metallic Prismacolor pencils on this card. The ribbon on the card I've had a long time, so not positive where I got it from, though I think I got it from JoAnn's craft store.

This tag says "Thinking of you" and I mounted it on the friendship card. I used my watercolor pencils to color the background again. This cream ribbon with the gold snowflakes came in a ribbon set my husband bought me for Christmas from Target. We were looking at their Christmas wrapping paper and I saw this ribbon and loved it, so he got it for me. It came in a three pack with 2 other ribbons. We also got another 3 pack for me. The other one of these embellishments went on the 2012 Christmas cards pocket page in my scrapbook.

These ones have a tag with a penguin that says "Celebrate good things." The ribbon on the card I've had a long time, so not positive where I got it from, though I think I got it from JoAnn's craft store. I used the watercolor pencils on this one also. There is another card that's pretty much the same, but the picture of the two of them did not turn out well. The embossed background is squares.

These tags say "Happy winter" with penguins. The background is a bunch of stripes, which I colored with my Prismacolor metallic pencils. I don't know where I got the blue snowflake ribbon from but the cream is the ribbon from Target.

These polar bears are so cute. The tags say "Thank you beary much" and I mounted them on a background with dots on it. I used the blue Prismacolor metallic colored pencil to color it. I had to borrow my son's pencil sharpener for these cards, since I couldn't find any of mine.

I'm not sure if I'll use these cards or if I'll donate them to the Operation Write Home (see their information here). I'm not sure if they take square cards, but we'll see. I sent a bunch of the ones I made previously to them, since I wasn't using them.

Second Verse, Same as the First

As I got ready to post this card that is the same base as the one I posted earlier, this lyric (used as the title for the post) from "I'm Henry the VIII, I am" by Hermin's Hermits came into my head. Weird the types of things that pop into your head at times. It fits though, since it's the same card base, just different embellishments. This time I played around with my watercolor pencils to color the card background. I didn't like how that looked by itself, so I added chalk on top of the watercolor. I like it better with the chalk, I think the two together give it dimension it wouldn't have with just one or the other.

This one I did make just a square of paper for the inside of the embossed square. It is a 2 inch square, in case you've purchased this set of cards and need to know what size to use. I added some red eyelets and then used wine organza ribbon from Stampin' Up to "hang" the square in the middle of the card. The cardstock was a little heavy and kept pulling down the ribbon so it wasn't staying in the square on the card background, so I added 3D foam adhesive to keep it where I wanted it to be. I used the 3d adhesive to make it look like it's still floating over the card.

For the square in the middle, I stamped a heart background stamp (by Rubber Stampede) I have with the versamark watermark pad, which makes a watermark just slightly darker than the paper. I then used some of my Studio G $1 acrylic stamp sets to stamp the word "love" and the hearts in a Merlot color of inkpad.

Heart Card

This card utilizes a couple items I've purchased in the last week. The card base is from a pre-embossed card set by Die Cuts With a View. It had 40 cards and 40 envelopes for $5, which equals about 13 cents a card (it was on sale at Micheal's), so I picked it up to play with. It has 10 different designs with 4 of each design. The middle part is from a set of small Cuttlebug embossing folders called "Fancy Corners." It kind of looked like hearts to me, so I figured it would go well with the heart card I chose to try out this morning. I got this set at Roberts on Monday, when I had a coupon for 25% off my entire order.

I used my pink Versmark chalk ink pad to add color to the front of the card and kind of highlight the embossed part, since the card was totally white. I wanted to use ribbon somehow, so after playing for a while, I cut slits down the sides of the center square and threaded 2 different types of ribbon through it, alternating the shiny pink one with the dotted pink one. Since I had cut one more of the dotted pink one than I needed, I used it to make a kind of bow below the embossed pink design. I used 3d mounting foam to mount the embossed pink design. I was originally going to have it be a square just slightly smaller than the one already embossed on the card, but the paper shifted as I put it in the cuttlebug, so it wasn't centered. I decided to see how it'd look cut out, and I think it turned out nicely.

A close up of the middle part of the card. I really like how the layered ribbon turned out. Now all I have to do is figure out some way to cover the inside part of the card so you don't see all the ribbon tails on the inside : ).

Some more love cards

Two more cards I made while playing around with my Stampin' Up "Hot to Dot" wheel (see more dots post). I stamped the background with the wheel and then added stuff to it.

This one I mounted some shiny grey ribbon on top and bottom. I then stamped "I adore you" on a Heidi Swapp "Writer's block" I got from Kathy M on scrapbookaddict.com for a different challenge. The "I adore you" stamp is a Studio G stamp I got from Micheals in a set of acrylic stamps that cost $1. I colored it with a marker because I didn't want the flower that is on the stamp also and I wanted the "you" centered instead of off set to the right like it is on the stamp. I then attached it to the card.

This one I mounted a small sheet of red cardstock on the left side and then some shiny grey ribbon to separate the two parts of the card. I then stamped "Thinking of you" on a Heidi Swapp "Writer's block" I got from Kathy M on scrapbookaddict.com for a different challenge. The "Thinking of you" stamp is a Studio G stamp I got from Micheals in a set of acrylic stamps that cost $1. I colored it with a marker because I didn't want the hearts that are on the stamp also and I wanted the "of you" next to the "thinking" instead of under it like on the stamp.

Maybe I'll write a love note for my husband in the "I adore you" one. I'm sure he'd appreciate it, it's been kind of a long week for both of us. (PS - I did write him a love note in the "I adore you" one. He isn't home yet, but I hope he likes it. Of course our boys had to read over my shoulder. I sent them away before I got too mushy : )

Love cards

Again, only a few of these. I don't really give out cards about love, though I'm sure my husband would love to get one every now and again : ).

This one has hearts versamarked on the background, you just can't see it in the picture.

On this one, the tag with the words and the heart (this is the Mini Messages Stampin' Up set) is suspended from the card with ribbon. The ribbon is put through the eyelet on the card, then the eyelet on the tag, then the other eyelet on the tag and finally through the other eyelet on the card. It is kind of a cool look. If I do it again though, I'll make the cut out portion on the card slightly bigger so it's more obvious that it is floating there.

The tag says "So Sweet" and that saying is also versamarked on the background of the card.

These cards are from a set I bought at Micheals before a craft show I sold at with my mom. I wanted a little more variety in my cards so thought the set might spice things up. We didn't do too well at the craft show, but it was fun making all the cards.

This one is a marriage card that says "Love is the sweetest thing" on the tag.

This one is a love card that says "A dream come true" on the top tag.
